Kathmandu: Following the government scrapped the contract sign reached with China Gezhouba Group Company (CGGC), the government Friday decided to construct the multipurpose Budhigandaki hydropower project through its own domestic investment.
The meeting of Council of Ministers held today took the decision to this effect.
According to Energy Minister Kamal Thapa, the government will hand over the responsibility to the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) for the construction of 1200 MW hydel project.
“The project would be constructed in domestic investment and technology,” Energy Minister Thapa said after the cabinet meeting.
He said that a committee will be formed within 15 days and start necessary preparations based on the report prepared by the committee.
The government cancelled the agreement responding the direction of the parliamentary committee as the agreement was unnatural and baseness.
