Kathmandu: Nepal has been upgraded to the One Day International (ODI) status by the International Cricket Council (ICC) to be effective from Friday.
According to ICC’s press statement, Nepal along with Scotland, United Arab Emirates (UAE) and the Netherlands have been inducted into the ODI status.
Nepal has been recognized for the first time as the ODI cricketing team after securing a place in the top three of the Associate level during the one day selection series held in Zimbabwe in March.
ICC has stated that Nepal and the Netherlands will be given complete status only after they play four matches each. In the ICC’s one day ranking England tops the ladder with 125 points while India is second with 122 points.
In the Associate level, Scotland is ranked 13 with 28 points while UAE comes in the 14th rank with 18 points. The Netherlands has 13 points while Nepal is yet to open an account. Nepal and Netherlands will be playing ODI matches on August 1 and 3.
