Kathmandu: The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) under the Legislature Parliament Thursday directed the government to expedite the construction works of Gautam Buddha International Airport (GBIA) so as to complete it by the current fiscal year.
The meeting held today directed the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation (MoCTCA) to complete the construction works of the airport within the stipulated time frame by accelerating pending works of the airport saying that the pace of construction works was not satisfactory.
The Gautam Buddha International Airport in Bhairahawa is a national pride project that is targeted to complete within the current fiscal year. The Asian Development Bank is providing financial support for the project.
Chairman of PAC, Dor Prasad Upadhyay said that they compelled to direct the concerned authority to construct the works within the timeframe after the monitoring from the concerned ministry, project chief and project about the development of projects.
Likewise, the Committee also drew the attention of the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers, Ministry of Supplies and Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation to ease the supply of essential construction equipments and materials as well.
The PAC directed the Ministry of Finance to manage necessary policy to overcome the problems witnessed while providing compensation to acquire land for the project.
On the meeting, Project Chief OM Sharma informed the Committee that Chinese contractor Northwest Civil Association, who got the construction work of Gautam Buddha Airport, was not working as per the agreement.
