Kathmandu: Minister for Agriculture, Land Management and Cooperatives Chakrapani Khanal said that the ministry would start work to make the country self-reliant in agricultural production within the next three years.
The import of agricultural products would be stopped by making the self-reliant in all kind of agri products within the next three years, he said, while speaking a function in the capital Tuesday.
“It is possible to be self reliant soon if we have effective plans and programmes. We will carry out the study on this,” Minister Khanal said.
He claimed that the country would able to export organic products within next five years as the country will move towards the export of organic products after making the country self-reliant.
Likewise, the government would work also make fruit production sector also self-reliant within the seven to 10 years.
Stating that he was well-known about the existing problems as a citizen of agricultural country, he said that development and stability is the main agenda of the new government.
The import of agriculture products is growing due to lack of production, which is bad for the economy, he said, adding that it is necessary to modernise the agriculture sector.
Minister Khanal stressed the need of amending the Prime Minister Agriculture Modernization Project because it failed to work properly for the development of the sector.
